Israeli NGO saves sight in Ethiopia

When the seven-person crew from the Israeli volunteer organization Eye from Zion arrived in a remote region in Ethiopia in February to provide free cataract surgery, they were expecting several dozen patients. Instead, hordes of adults and children were waiting to receive the life-changing operation. Over a thousand people were treated, and one young girl with a protruding eye was given a very special gift - a medical trip to Israel.

Remembrance Day for the Fallen of Israel's Wars and Israel Independence Day 

Israel Independence Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, according to the Hebrew calendar. The day preceding this celebration is devoted to the memory of those who gave their lives for the achievement of the country's independence and its continued existence. A total of 22,993 men and women have been killed defending the land of Israel since 1860.

Higher education in Israel - Selected data 2010/11

In the last two decades, higher education in Israel has been undergoing a process of expansion, primiarily due to the opening of academic colleges. Out of 67 academic institutions in 2011/12, seven are universities, one is an open university, 36 are academic colleges, and 23 are teachers' colleges.

MASHAV, the Agency for International Development Cooperation of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has launched its official Web site at: http://mashav.mfa.gov.il

 

Mashav is responsible for Israel's international cooperation and assistance around the world, through the provision of guidance and training in Israel and abroad. The assistance is provided in a wide variety of areas, including agriculture, medicine, education, the advancement of the status of women, community and family. Since the Center for International Cooperation was first established in 1958, more than 200,000 people have benefited from Mashav training programs.
