One year later, the Carmel is recovering

Following the worst forest fire in Israel's history, a combination of Mother Nature and human helping hands are turning the Carmel green again. About 18,000 volunteers from Israel and abroad have put in the equivalent of 13,000 workdays to help the Carmel - students, families, soldiers, members of public and private organizations and professional foresters.

Forty years after Ski Hermon’s opening, Israelis have become more sophisticated skiers.

Israel's only ski resort, which turns 40 this winter, is ready for record numbers this winter season, after significant snowfall allowed the opening of the slopes. The geographic location affords outstanding views of the Hermon mountain range and northern Israel.

BrainStorm, a Petah Tikva company originally founded to commercialize a drug for Parkinson's, has developed a methodology useful for a number of motor-brain related disorders.

The iPhone maker may be ready to open its first R&D center outside California.

It took them a few years, but Apple is finally reported to be joining the long list of companies that have opened research and development centers in Israel. And it couldn't have come at a better time - coinciding with the purchase by Apple of an Israeli startup, whose flash chips help power the Apple products that have become best-sellers the world over.

Israel's English-language theater thriving

English-speaking theater troupes entertain 'Anglos' as well as Israelis from Haifa to Beersheva, Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. People are desperate for light entertainment that's literate and witty, as a release from the tension of everyday life. Hebrew speakers also come because of the quality in music, staging and production.

Higher education in Israel - Selected data 2010/11

In the last two decades, higher education in Israel has been undergoing a process of expansion, primiarily due to the opening of academic colleges. Out of 67 academic institutions in 2011/12, seven are universities, one is an open university, 36 are academic colleges, and 23 are teachers' colleges.

MASHAV, the Agency for International Development Cooperation of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has launched its official Web site at: http://mashav.mfa.gov.il

 

Mashav is responsible for Israel's international cooperation and assistance around the world, through the provision of guidance and training in Israel and abroad. The assistance is provided in a wide variety of areas, including agriculture, medicine, education, the advancement of the status of women, community and family. Since the Center for International Cooperation was first established in 1958, more than 200,000 people have benefited from Mashav training programs.
